The Art of Photography Show Presents
An Evening with Photographers
When: Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 7:00 pm
Location: Lyceum Theatre Gallery, Downtown San Diego in Horton Plaza
Adam Lau is a freelance photojournalist whose work focuses on environmental storytelling and Pacific Rim politics. He will be showing his documentary images from the radical marine conservation group, Sea Shepherd, and their efforts to halt Japanese whaling operations in Antarctica's Southern Ocean. His presentation will be a photojournalist's inside-view of 'eco-pirate' culture and behind-the-scenes of Animal Planet's TV series, Whale Wars.
Adam spent 3 months aboard Sea Shepherd's ship, documenting their latest campaign to stop Japanese whaling in Antarctica's Southern Ocean. As a photojournalist, he is fascinated by closed society. Embedding with Sea Shepherd let him witness not only the environmental controversy, but also the inner 'eco-pirate' culture. Formerly a marine biologist, Adam is currently a photo editor at Wetpixel Quarterly Magazine. His work has appeared in publications such as the Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, and Outside.
Sharon Montrose is an acclaimed animal photographer and the author of ten published photography books. Sharon's definitive photographic style has made her one of the most sought-after commercial photographers specializing in animals. In addition, her Animal Series images are part of numerous public and private collections.
Sharon's image, "Macaw", was chosen by the curator of the Art of Photography Show 2009, Charlotte Cotton, from 16,000 photographs submitted by artists in 57 countries. It is from a collection of over sixty animals Sharon photographed as part of her Animal Series. Along with "Macaw", Sharon will be showing and talking about the many beautiful, quirky, and endearing animals she has photographed.
